Jouluistutus, jonka tein toissavuonna. Ei tätä ikivihreäksi voi sanoa, mutta kestää kuitenkin :). Korkeutta tällä pienokaisella on noin 9 cm.

My Christmas planter from the other year. I can't really call it evergreen, but it's a lasting sort anyway! This little thing is about 9 cm high.

Olen nähnyt tänä vuonna paljon jouluiseen Pähkinänsärkijä -balettiin liittyviä joulukoristeita siellä ja täällä. Tein sitten myös omani, nimittäin pikkurummun.

I've seen many Christmas ornaments this year referring to The Nutcracker -ballet. Following that trend I made my own version of a little drum.

Lähtölaskenta jouluun - Piparkakkumaja [Countdown to Christmas - Gingerbread Hut]

Joulutunnelmissa virkkasin kuusenkoristeeksi ihan pienen piparkakkumajan (taloksi sitä ei varmaan voi kutsua)! Koristelu on vähän askeettinen, mutta ehkä keksin siihen myöhemmin jotain lisää. 

Korkeutta tällä rakennuksella on noin 10 cm. Talo ja katto on virkattu erikseen ja ommeltu lopuksi yhteen. Malli on omasta päästäni :)

I crocheted a little gingerbread hut! (Can't really call it a house, can I?) It's a bit spartan, but maybe I'll figure out how to embellish it little more. I'll hang it in our Christmas tree when we get it. 

The hut is about 10 cm high. The base and the roof have been crocheted separately and then sewed together. The pattern is from my own head :).

Tähtiä on meillä koristeena jo siellä ja täällä. Tässä viimeisin virkkaamani tähtönen. Ohjeen itse tähteen olen napannut Pinterestistä. Harmaa lanka oli bambua/puuvillaa.

Stars decorate our home all over the house. This is my latest crochet star. The pattern for the star I found  on Pinterest. The grey yarn was bamboo/cotton.

Kiitos kaikille blogin lukijoille - jo 8000 käyntiä täällä, wau! Kiitos myös kaikille rekisteröityneille lukijoille sekä Facebook ja Instagram -seuraajille. Maaliskuussa tätä blogia aloittelin ja tämä on ihan ylittänyt odotukseni :)

Ajattelin juhlistaa Joulun odotusta pienellä kuvakalenterilla. Ihan joka päivä en varmaankaan uusia kuvia ehdi lisäilemään, mutta yritän mahdollisimman usein. Näissä yritän pitää tekstin varsin lyhyenä. Katsotaan kuinka käy!

Täällä valmistaudutaan leivontaan ja askarteluun.

Getting ready for baking and crafting.

Pikkutarjotin ja pitkään etsimäni puuvartinen pullasuti löytyivät huippuedullisesti upouudesta Habitat -liikkeestä Helsingin keskustasta (myös verkkokauppa löytyy). Suosittelen liikettä muuten lämpimästi kaikille sisustuksen ystäville. Minä, vanha skeptikko, yllätyin positiivisesti neutraaleista tai muuten mukavista väreistä, paljosta puusta sekä kohtuullisesta hintatasosta. Valikoimassakin oli paljon tervetullutta uutta.

Pilvimuotti, jota ajattelin askarteluhommiin, koska on jo parhaat päivänsä nähnyt, onkin sitten löytö uudesta Kierrätyskaupasta Espoon Suomenojalta.

Kissa oli jo omasta takaa :)

Thanks to everyone for visiting my blog - 8000 visits already! A special thanks to registered followers, and followers in Instagram too. I started this blog in March and this has been much more fun than I even expected!

I'd like to count down to Christmas with a small picture calendar. I can't promise I'll post new pictures on a daily basis, but I'll try to make a new post as often as possible.

Habitat just opened its first store in Helsinki and that's where I found the little tray and that brush. The cookie cutter I plan to use for crafting and that I found from a new Reuse Center Shop.

Hei kaikki! Tällä kertaa postaus tulee toisinpäin kuin yleensä, eli nyt pääasiassa englanniksi ja vain tiivistelmä lopussa suomeksi. 

Hi everyone! I had the pleasure to receive a Liebster Blog Award from Géraldine from Wool and Cats. Thank You, sweet Géraldine! Wow, I was really surprised and pleased!

The Award is given by a blogger to his/her favourite blogs (up to 11) and the nominee should answer 11 questions. The nominee of the award should in his/her turn nominate new blogs and ask the same or new questions from those blogs. I also understood that the idea is to introduce blogs with less than 200 Facebook followers... ( I read some rules in French and I'm not entirely sure I got everything right)

The questions Géraldine forwarded me (or as I understood them with my poor French & with the aid of Google Translator) and my answers as follows:

1. What does the name of your blog mean?
It's a combination of two things: my love for Sarah Kay / Holly Hobbie -type of ragdollish images and the breed of my cat (Ragdoll).
2. How much time do you spend with your blog, per week?
It varies, maybe from one to three hours. Plus the time it takes to make the crafts I present in my posts!  
3. Your favourite colour? 
That changes from time to time! Maybe yellow at the moment.
4. What's your favourite craft?
Crochet. No competition there.
5. How many blogs do you follow?
I would say maybe 20, some more regularly than others.
6. Are you a creative soul?
I am, yes, but I can keep it under control :)
7. Is there a material you most like to work with?
Working with cotton yarn feels the best 
8. Yarn and you...
I simply *need* yarn to crochet somethin. I need to crochet if not daily, at least weekly.
9. At what age did you learn to crochet/knit?
Oh, I must have been about 10-11. But the real burst of crocheting for me started maybe four years ago.
10. Who taught you?
I think I learned at school at first but my mom is a knitting/crochet wizard so I think she's taught me a lot, too. (Moi Äiti! Hi Mom!)  
11. What are your future projects?
There are so many...I have many smaller ideas but one bigger project I'd like to start (and finish) is a crochet throw for my sofa. But that would take a lot of yarn and a bit more patience than I generally have...But maybe some day :)

Sain tosi mukavan yllätyksen, Liebster Blog Awardin, ranskalaiselta bloggaajalta Géraldinelta Wool and Cats -blogista. Wau! Oli tosi ihana huomionosoitus. Liebster Blog Awardin saajan tulee vastata annettuihin kysymyksiin sekä jatkaa ketjua uusilla (tai samoilla) kysymyksillä haluamiltaan blogeilta. Tämä on tosi kiva tapa tutustua uusiin blogeihin, kun tutkii kaikkia palkinnon saaneita blogeja. Löysin Géraldinen listaltakin tosi monia kivoja blogeja.

Koukku sauhuaa [Crochet hook put to serious work]

Virkkuukoukku viuhuu kuulkaa täällä tiuhaan tahtiin. Tällä hetkellä on tähtipalloja (aiempaan tyyliin) valmisteilla joulua varten - vain tähdet vielä kiinnittämättä.  Ja näitä on siis enemmänkin jo syntynyt...

My crochet hook is on overdrive right now. I'm making Christmas baubles with stars at the moment (like the ones I wrote about before), I only need to attach the stars and they'll be finished.  Here are only some of the baubles I've made so far...

Pidän muuten valtavasti kirpparilta löytämästäni rustiikista lyhdystä: voin polttaa isoakin kynttilää pelkäämättä että kisu käy uteliaana kärventämässä viiksensä (sekin on nimittäin kokeiltu, tuli oikein kiharat viiksikarvat ... )

By the way, I love the lantern I found from a flea market: Now I can burn big candles without having to worry about my cat burning her whiskers in her curiosity (she has tried that before, you know, some of her whiskers became silly curly...)

Puuta ja metallia [Wood and metal]

Tällä viikolla kimppuuni iski askartelukärpänen. Mistähän sekin pomppasi? Onko teilläpäin vastaavaa havaittu?

Metallitähtikehikoista (koru- ja askartelukaupoissa saatavilla) sekä puuhelmistä syntyi tällaisia tähtösiä ripustettavaksi kuuseen tai ikkunaan, paikkaa ei ole päätetty vielä. 

Apuna tarvitaan myös pihtejä, joilla vääntää nuo suorat päät mutkalle, etteivät helmet putoa. Se olikin hankalin vaihe koko hommassa, ripustuspaikan päättämisen lisäksi tietenkin.

Lisäksi kieputtelin pikkuisia karkkikeppejä (n. 11 cm pitkiä) hieman epäjouluisilla väreillä. Näitä löytyykin jo vino pino. Ajattelin koostaa näistä jonkinlaisen viirinauhan seinälle. 

Virkkaukset sen sijaan ovat tällä viikolla niinsanotusti vaiheessa, mutta jotain on tekeillä toki, muuten minä en olisi minä! Hyvää viikonvaihdetta kaikille & Tervetuloa uudet lukijat!

This week I've been crafting: stars from metal star frames and wooden pearls and a huge pile of those tiny (about 11cm long) candy canes with not-so-christmassy colours. Hmm...I think I'll make a some sort of bunting with them.

Finish off.
Take some white yarn and surface crochet a trim on the last dc-row.

The handle:
17 ch
on the third st from hook: dc
dc until the end of chain
Finish off, but leave a long tail.
Take a needle and sew, with the tail, the handle to the cup with just a few stitches at the top of the handle, but from about 1 cm length at the bottom of the handle.

Teekupposia [Tea Cups]

Kehittelin tuossa omaa teekuppimalliani. Tällaiselta tällä hetkellä näyttää! 

Päätyönä tällä viikolla on kuitenkin kahden tablettipussukan työstö, sain aimo harppauksen niitäkin eteenpäin eilisenä pyhäpäivänä.

Kurpitsaista menoa [Pumpkins]

Mukavaa pikkukiirettä on ollut, enkä ole ehtinyt virkkailemaan kovasti. Jotain nyt sentään, syntyi pikkukurpitsa ison kaverin seuraksi. Iso kaveri odottaakin vielä kaivertamista.

En tullut kirjoittaakseni ohjetta, mutta tästä tuli hauskan epäsymmetrinen kun kavensin tasaisen osuuden jälkeen kerroksen lopuilla vähän epätasaisesti... tarkoituksella tietenkin (no, okei, vähän vahingossa). Oranssi lanka oli Novitan Kartanoa ja koukku 1.75 mm paksu. Vielä ehtii tehdä viikonlopuksi!

Tykkään kuvata näitä töitäni päivänvalossa ja siitäpäs on tullut haastava tavoite näin loppusyksystä... Pimeää piisaa ja päivisinkin voi olla vähän synkeää. Kuten hyvin tiedätte! Mutta sehän toki sopii näin Pyhäinpäivän kynnyksellä. 

Kiva kun kävit! Hyviä virkkauksia, neulomuksia ja muita käsitöitä pimeydenkin keskellä!

I've been a bit busy and have only managed to crochet a little pumpkin to go with our real one (yet to be carved). My crochet pumpkin became a bit wonky, but it suits the purpose. I decreased a bit unevenly at the end of each decrease round. 

I like to take my blog pictures in daylight and that is a bit of a challenge out here this time of year. During the not so numerous hours of daylight I'm busy at work elsewhere and even during the day it may be a bit dark. But I guess that's only suitable for Halloween season.

Luomulankaiset tähtipallot [Crochet balls with stars from organic yarn]

Luomupuuvillalangasta, maissikuituvanusta, huovasta ja pellavanarusta syntyi herkkiä tähtipalloja. Tein näitä jo viime vuonna, mutta silloiset löysivät tiensä uusiin koteihin, joten teinpä niitä nyt lisää. Nämä sopivat vuoden ympäri koristamaan kotia, mutta varsin hyvin kyllä myös tuohon häämöttävään juhlapyhään, siihen jonka nimeä ei ihan vielä mainita... 

Halkaisija näillä on n. 6,5 cm, roosa tosin aavistuksen isompi hieman paksumman lankansa takia.

Minäpä tartun nyt taas koukkuun ja työstän uusia tilattuja tablettitaskuja. Ääneen lausuttu toiveeni tosiaan toteutui, kun sanoin aiemmin että niitä olisi kiva tehdä lisää :)

Kuuraa & lumihiutaleita [Frost & Snowflakes]

Sattuipa sopivasti, että ensimmäisenä kuura-aamuna näillä leveyksillä saamani lumihiutaletilaus valmistui. 

Pienempi hiutale on alla näkyvän kirjan mallista. Muistelenpa nähneeni kyseisen kirjan alennuksessa Suomalaisen Kirjakaupan Alessa! Ja eilen oli ainakin isolla Helsingin kylällä vielä -40% lisäale. Muitakin käsityökirjoja oli tarjolla, mm. ihana Tildan talossa -kirja olisi kustantanut kokonaiset 5,95€. (Ei maksettu mainos, vain vinkki teille ystäväiset!) Isompi hiutale on myös mallista, mutta toisesta vanhemmasta kirjasta. 

Pikkuhiutaleita tein kuusi ja isompia neljä. Kovettimena käytin tuollaista Stiffy-nimistä ainetta, jonka ostin jo ajat sitten toiseen projektiin. Erikeeper ja vesi -sekoitus tai sokeritärkki käy varmasti ihan yhtä hyvin. Tuo Stiffy on kyllä ihan näppärä tällaisen kärsimättömän ihmisen nopeaan toimintaan, laimensin kuitenkin aika paljon vedellä ettei tule ihan koppuraa tulosta. Pingotin lumihiutaleet nuppineuloilla kärjistään sopivalle alustalle yön yli ja lopputulos on ihan täydellinen! Laitan niihin vielä siimasta ripustimet, jotta näyttävät sitten siltä, että leijuisivat ilmassa.

Hiutaleet lähtevät heti maanantaina postiin Etelä-Karjalan suuntaan! Terveisiä sinne!

It was very suitable that this morning when my batch of crocheted snowflakes became ready, this autumn's first first frost was on the ground. Autumn seems to be proceeding quickly into winter here. Kids can't wait for snow but personally I would have enjoyed milder weather a bit longer...

Anyway, the pattern for the smaller snowflake I made was from a book by Caitlin Sainio. I used a ready-to-go fabric stiffener for the flakes and they turned out just perfect.

Pinnit matkaan [Hair Clips away]

Tein nämä viime postauksen pinnit alunperinkin lahjaksi ja nyt keksin miten paketoin ne nätisti! 

Minusta nämä ovat oikein mainio setti äidille ja pienille tyttärille. Toivottavasti vastaanottaja ilahtuu. (Hys... ne ovat yllätys :) !)

I figured out a way to package the hair clips I showed you in my latest post!

I think this is a cute set for a certain mum and her little daughters. I hope the receiver likes them. 

(Shhh... they are a surprise :) !)

Helmipinnejä [Hair clips with pearls]

Aamuvirkkuu-osastolta hyvää huomenta! Tällä kertaa valmistin hiuspinnejä: virkkasin ruusuja ja keskelle ompelin lasihelmen. Pinneistä tuli heti vähän juhlavampia helmen kera.

This morning I finished some hair clips. I crocheted some roses and sewed glass pearls in the middle. The pearls made the clips a notch more glamorous, I think. 

En malta olla näyttämättä myös rasiaa, jonka löysin kirpparilta. Rakastan Beatrix Potterin hahmoja, joten tämä pikkuinen Petteri Kaniini -rasia löysi tietysti tien kotiini. Siinä säilytän näitä helmiä.

I also want to show you my flea-market find, this little tin box with Peter Rabbit on it. I love Beatrix Potter, so naturally I took this box home with me. That's where I keep those glass pearls.
